Mirror and foraging enrichment for southern ground hornbills

Gumby and Zazu the southern ground hornbills enjoy mirror and foraging enrichment as part of Zoo Atlanta’s Play the Animal Way Virtual All-Day Play-a-Thon. Since hornbills are attracted to shiny objects, the mirror activity encourages the pounding and stabbing behaviors they would use to capture prey in the wild. The large foraging bowl is filled with favorite treats such as giant mealworms and waxworms.
